History

The Delta Elite is credited as being the first firearm produced by a major manufacturer to chamber the 10mm. The ill-fated[clarification needed]Bren Ten sparked a genuine interest in the 10mm round with outdoorsmen and as a defense round.

The pistol was dropped from production in 1996 due to lackluster sales and the availability of smaller pistols with higher magazine capacities chambered in .40 S&W.

Colt announced the re-introduction of the Delta Elite at the 2008 SHOT Show. This new generation is generally similar to the previous version. The “new” Delta Elites will be manufactured with the traditional barrel/bushing arrangement. Colt Customer Service stated they had a lack of acceptable accuracy problem with the “bull” bushingless barrel setup. That was the cause of the delay in the Delta Elite’s production schedule. The new Delta Elite pistol was released March 31, 2009.

Травматический кольт

Все имеющееся травматическое оружие можно условно поделить на две группы: либо переделанное из боевого, либо изготовленное аналогично боевым образцам. Чем известнее марка пистолета или револьвера, тем популярнее травматический вариант.

После завершения войны (Второй мировой) в Германии было организовано производство оружия, предназначенного для самообороны населения. Фирма «Эрма-верке» (Эрфурт) производила карманные аналоги известных на тот период времени брендов. Одна из моделей внешне была очень схожа с американским «Кольтом”.

В наши дни на его базе и был создан травматический пистолет – модель «Эрма-459Р». Ее так и называют – травматический «Кольт 1911» – в среде любителей. Но для специалистов это далеко не так. Слишком много отличий, даже внешних, не позволяют ему дать такое определение. «Начинка» пистолета очень далека от оригинала и не имеет с ним ничего общего. В чистом виде травматического «Кольта» нет.

M4A1 Carbine

The M4A1 Carbine is the main weapon seen carried and used by the three main characters – Privates Larry McCoy (Larry the Cable Guy), Bill Little (Bill Engvall) and Everett Shackleford (DJ Qualls), as well as Master Sergeant Kilgore (Keith David). The M4A1 is also seen carried by practically all other US Army personnel. This would indicate the M4A1 as being the standard-issue weapon for US Army soldiers, which is incorrect; The M4A1 is generally used by more specialized units – The burst-fire M4 Carbine, as well as the M16A2 and M16A4 would have been more prevalent in real life. Several of the M4A1s in the film are built on M16A1 lower receivers, indicated by the older-style pistol grips lacking finger rests.

Several Ruger Mini-14s are seen used by Carlos Santana’s (Danny Trejo) banditos throughout the film. Both the standard wood-furniture Ruger post-series 180 style carbine and stainless-steel synthetic furniture variants are seen.

Cannon ‘1875 Napoleon 12-Pounder’

An antique cannon, described as an “1875 Napoleon 12-Pounder”, is found in the village of La Miranda by Everett, who then spends a fair portion of the film working on making it operational. Larry ultimately uses it to take out Santana’s Sherman tank near the end of the film.

Larry: “Where’d you get that cannon?” Everett: “This is an 1875 Napoleon 12-Pounder – Only an amateur like yourself would call it a cannon.” Everett wheels out the cannon.

Everett (DJ Qualls) works on the cannon and waits for it to fire.

Everett and Larry (Larry the Cable Guy) anticipate the cannon to fire, only to have it fail to do so.

M60

The M60 machine gun is briefly seen wielded by Larry and primarily seen mounted on the Humvee, where it is manned and used by Bill (Bill Engvall) and later Kilgore (Keith David).

UPDATE! December 16th, 2016

It has been over four years since we reviewed
the Colt Delta Elite 10mm auto pistol here, and since that time,
Colt has made significant updates to that pistol. Several years
ago, Colt introduced their XSE line of 1911 pistols. The XSE
upgrades made a good pistol even better, but when they did this,
Colt ignored the Delta Elite 10mm pistol, and left it with
standard features which had long been outdated. Now, Colt has
corrected that oversight, and the Delta Elite pistols have the
features that today’s knowledgeable shooters want. On the new
pistol, the sights have been upgraded to the excellent Novak
style, with both front and rear now dovetailed into the slide.
The trigger has been changed from that black plastic trigger to
a lightweight aluminum trigger, with three lightening holes. The
grip safety is much better, now being the comfortable upswept
beavertail with speed bump, and combined with the slight frame
relief behind the trigger guard, makes the pistol sit a bit
lower in the hand, for better comfort and control. The grips no
longer wrap around the front of the frame, and are a better
quality than previously provided on the Delta Elite pistol. The
pistol retains the Series 80 firing pin safety, but the trigger
pull is crisp, and releases with about four and one-half pounds
of resistance.

• перевозить и носить пневматический кольт во всех населенных пунктах можно исключительно в зачехленном состоянии.

success back in 1986, many thought that the 10mm cartridge was
dead in the water. However, soon after, when Colt introduced the
Delta Elite and Smith & Wesson introduced their 1006 series
of auto pistols, the FBI briefly adopted the cartridge, and it
had a new life. The original Norma ammunition was powerful
stuff, and proved to produce more recoil than the FBI desired,
so they effectively castrated the cartridge by requesting a
weaker load, which lead to the development of the 40 S&W
cartridge. Were it not for ammunition companies like Buffalo
Bore and Double Tap, the 10mm Auto would likely be dead today.
However, with ammunition available that far outperforms anything
that the 40 S&W can do, the 10mm is one of the best auto
pistol cartridges that we can own.

While the S&W and Colt 10mm pistols went
out of production, Glock and EAA,
along with a few others, kept the 10mm alive with some very good
pistols that are built to handle the pressure and recoil of the
fine cartridge. Colt has recently re-introduced their Delta
Elite 10mm auto pistol, giving shooters another choice in a 1911
style 10mm pistol.

There are those who say that the 1911 design
cannot handle the 10mm auto cartridge, but that is just not
true. Set up properly, the design does very well, and is also
relatively comfortable to shoot. The same fine attributes that
endear the 45 ACP 1911 pistol to thousands of shooters carry
over into the Colt Delta Elite. The 10mm runs at about the same
pressures as do the 9×19 and 38 Super cartridges using modern
ammunition. The Delta Elite uses a dual-spring recoil system,
and I observed no battering of the frame, slide, guide rod, nor
anything else after shooting the pistol extensively with the
high performance ammunition listed below.

The Delta Elite is made primarily of
stainless steel. The sides of the frame, hammer, and slide have
a satin polished finish. The rest of the pistol has a
bead-blasted finish. The grip panels are checkered synthetic
rubber, and wrap around the front strap for a secure grip. The
Delta Elite has the Series 80 firing pin safety to prevent
discharge if the weapon is dropped on its muzzle. The pistol has
a single-sided thumb safety and a Commander-style (Rowel)
hammer. The grip safety is of standard configuration. The black
three-dot sights are not adjustable for elevation correction,
but the rear sight can be drifted in its dovetail for windage
correction. Critical dimensions are listed in the chart below.
Weight is listed in ounces. Linear measurements are listed in
inches. Trigger pull is listed as pounds of resistance. Height
includes the sights and magazine base.

Design

The Delta Elite is a standard M1911 design, with a few minor differences from the latest Series 80 derivative of that pistol. It carries the rowel “Commander” type hammer of that pistol and the same overall features of the 1911 that have made it so popular with users. However, the Delta Elite carries a stiffer double recoil spring to handle the increased recoil of the 10mm round. Unlike the .400 Corbon, the 10mm can easily exceed the pressure levels of the .357 Magnum, thus stressing the original design’s limitations, unless care is given. Many gunsmiths have their own modifications which they feel adjust the level of felt recoil of the Delta Elite. Some of the very first Delta Elites had a tendency to suffer flex-induced slide rail stress cracks. This was quickly addressed by removing the section of the rail above the slide-stop cutout.

L1A1 SLR

Variants

• Variant 1 Blued – a standard blued Delta Elite.
• Variant 1 Stainless – a standard stainless Delta Elite, featuring pebbled texture wrap-around grips and a solid silver aluminum trigger.
• Variant 2 – Colt Gold Cup Ten. Assembled by Colt Custom Shop with only 500 being produced. Serial Numbers begin GCTEN ending with numerals from 001–500.
• Variant 3 – Colt Match 10. The Gold Cup versions were not available at the time, so this was the most advanced ‘Gold Cup’ type available. The adjustable Millet style sight allows it to be centered for decent groups at 25 yards. According to Colt, approximately 400 were manufactured in 1988.
• Variant 4 – spur hammer with black grips
• Special variant – Colt Elite Ten Forty — the Colt Elite Ten/Forty was a special edition for Lew Horton Co. in the early 1990s. This edition is a special dual caliber offering of the Combat Elite semi-automatic pistol. The pistol is furnished in .40 S&W and includes a 10mm Auto conversion kit consisting of a barrel slide stop, two recoil springs and guide, and a stainless steel 10mm magazine. In addition, each pistol is specially roll-marked “ELITE TEN/FORTY” on the left side of the slide and features a flat mainspring housing. This edition consists of approximately 411 units and utilizes a special serial number prefix 1040E.
• New variation – reintroduced in 2009 (model O2020) with diamond texture wrap-around grips. Updated recoil spring and guide rod. In 2015, a version with wood grips and serrated front strap was introduced (O2020WG). In 2016, a small run of two-tone blued slide/ stainless steel frame O2020s was manufactured for distribution by Bill Hicks (box marked O2020 but sometimes referred to as O2020Z). Also in 2016, the Delta Elite was upgraded to model O2020XE, with Novak sights, extended thumb safety, beavertail grip safety, enhanced hammer, flared ejector port, Gold Cup serrations, and 3 hole trigger. A FDE cerakote version of this gun was offered by Davidson’s (O2020FDE). In 2017, Colt introduced the Delta Elite Rail Gun (O2020RG).
